Could you be a
Community First Responder?

Recruits wanted to help in this vital service

As you know your Ashley and Loggerheads Community First Responders provide emergency medical treatment to all 999 calls made in the local area and have provided this cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since Summer 2005, some 1300 call outs. However, it is becoming more and more difficult to provide cover when holidays and work commitments reduce the number of trained Responders available to respond. So Ashley and Loggerheads CFRs are now looking to recruit and train additional responders to supplement the current team.
If you are interested in volunteering to be part of your local Response team and to train (from September) to be a Responder please contact our Coordinator Frances by phone on 673460 or by email at coordinator@alcfr.co.uk.
Further details about the team can be found at www.alcfr.co.uk

WHAT ARE THE BEFRIENDERS ?
COULD THEY HELP YOU?

About Befriending

Everyone needs other people, but not everyone has someone. For people who become isolated because of ill health, disability or social disadvantage, being matched with a befriender often fills a big gap. This is what the Loggerheads and District Befrienders are all about.
Are you elderly and sometimes feel lonely or isolated? Do you wish someone could just come and have a chat with you in to your home and may be a cuppa, or perhaps to telephone on a regular basis to chat? Ring us on the number below.
Do you know someone who you think would appreciate such a call from a befriender?
If so, speak to them and ask them to contact us.

Befrienders Contact Details
Telephone 01630 674365 (Loggerheads Community Information Shop), leaving only your name and telephone number and someone will get back to you. Alternatively email info@loggerheads.eu Frances and Kathleen

(All our befrienders will have had a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check as well as references taken up)

Save the Children
Ashley & Loggerheads Branch

Registered Charity No. 213890

Save the Children at work in Burma

When Cyclone Nargis struck the south west corner of Burma on 3rd May causing flooding and massive damage to buildings roads and basic infrastructure, hundreds of thousands of people were affected. Save the Children estimated that 400,000 children have been made homeless.

Save the Children has been working in Burma for 13 years and has a good working relationship with the government. They are already working in all five areas and were able to respond immediately e.g. distributing food, water purification tablets, plastic sheeting for shelter and protection, kitchen equipment and rehydration salts to families whose homes have been destroyed. Other work includes logistics organisation, re-building schools, tracing families of children who have been separated to reunite them and providing safe places to play to help them return to a sense of normality and deal with the trauma of the emergency.

DON’T BIN IT, CONE IT
Where do you put your COOKED FOOD WASTE?

The Green Cone takes all household food waste, including vegetable scraps, raw and cooked meat or fish, bones, dairy products and other organic kitchen waste e.g. tea bags, bread etc. It comes with a 4 litre kitchen caddy for collecting and carrying household food waste to the Green Cone.
The patented design of the unit utilises a solar heating effect between the inner and outer cones to promote air circulation, which facilitates the growth of beneficial micro-organisms and the desirable aerobic digestion process. The household food waste is converted into water, carbon dioxide and a small amount of residue that will only need to be removed every few years in a well operating Green Cone.
An experiment is being carried out locally to see if the Green Cone does work. For more information on this test contact info@loggerheads.eu, or ring 01630 674365.
