J S Bach’s Christmas Oratorio begins with a startling five-beat drum introduction and an opening chorus that sets the tone for a joyous and uplifting celebration of the Christmas story. Performers and listeners alike know they’re in for a treat as they immerse themselves in Bach’s musical genius. Instead of being distracted by Christmas advertisements from September, join us for a three-hour celebration of the true meaning of Christmas. We’ll focus on four wonderful choruses, including the above and “Ehre sie Gott,” a gloriously excitable chorus that depicts the Angelic Host glorifying God and sharing the news of Jesus’ birth with the shepherds.
