Jenny Sturgeon and M G Boulter have been penpals since 2021, maintaining the ebb and flow of a musical conversation between their respective homes on Shetland and Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Both established songwriters in their own right they cemented their collaboration through the Shetland Songwriting Festival, (where they were both tutors in 2022), as well as sharing mutual musical friends and becoming label mates on the indie folk label, Hudson Records.
Those catch-ups, held online across months and years, led to the quiet creation of a collection of songs which reflect the topics that naturally came up in their conversations, from meditations on travel ( Holding Patterns’) and family ( Jason’) to idle talk about trips taken and wonders seen ( Flint Knapped’).
